The hammam, slowly

Steam, black soap and a kessa glove: what to expect in the riad’s private hammam.

The hammam, slowly

A ritual older than the house

The hammam is the oldest habit in Marrakech, and ours is small and private: one tadelakt room, a warm marble slab, steam, and a therapist who has done this all her life.

  1. Steam. Ten minutes to open the skin.
  2. Savon beldi. Black olive-oil soap, left on to soften.
  3. Kessa. A full scrub with the rough glove — more thorough than you expect.
  4. Rhassoul and rose water. Clay, a rinse, and a rest.

Finish with mint tea in the courtyard. Book the Beldi Hammam Ritual on your first evening and you will sleep better than you have in weeks.
