Behind an unmarked door
Riad Dar Nour sits a few minutes’ walk from the Mouassine fountain, behind a cedar door with no sign above it. Through a bent passage, the noise of the medina drops away and the house opens up: a courtyard of green zellige, four orange trees and a small pool, with two storeys of carved galleries around it.
The house was built for a cloth merchant in the late nineteenth century. Its restoration took three years and was done by hand — tadelakt plaster burnished with river stones, zellige cut tile by tile in Fès, and cedar ceilings repainted from the fragments that survived.
- Eight rooms and suites, no two alike
- A rooftop terrace with dinner every night
- A private hammam and a courtyard plunge pool
Nour means light. You will see why at four in the afternoon, when the sun drops into the courtyard.
